I was just at ESPN's new NFL blog, called "Hashmarks." The guy had about 12 posts from every news item of the past few days. He offered absolutely no insight or opinion. I already have an ESPN.com RSS news feed. Why do I need this guy's stupid blog?
Yet I'm sure he'll be getting 100,000+ hits a day. Worst of all, he's a Dallas homer.
I must battle the ignorance and general blogging ineptitude.
That's why this blog now exists. It took me about as long as I suspect it took him to come up with a name (about four seconds).
I'm not an expert at analyzing football film. But I am an NFL junkie, and I do have real, actual opinions that come from MY observations, not someone else's. I could watch any NFL game and enjoy myself and I have met few people who follow the sport more closely. I mean meeting someone in person, of course. The internet is filled with obsessed freaks.
I will attempt to deemphasize the Cowboys, the Giants, the Patriots and Peyton Manning in order to balance out what NFL coverage has become.
Another element of this blog that will improve on similar blogs is that I won't scrutinize over stupid things, such as who had the best day two 2007 draft. Wow, what a dumb thing to think about.
Right now we are in the middle of NFL dead time, with mini-camps and league discipline being our most exciting news.
By the way, of COURSE there is a dog fighting subculture among NFL players... They are men who run full speed at each other for a living.
So since no one is actually reading this yet, I'll post again the next time something exciting happens.
The only thing I will guarantee is that I will offer more substance than Peter King, Dr. Z, Pete Prisco, and this new ESPN guy combined.
And yet they will continue to be read by many. I guess you could say the blog is an exercise in demonstrating the power of large media organizations.
